We're good on the Eastern Front

I just realized that it has been about 9 months since I last posted and that is waaaaay too long. It is easy to forget especially these days with the popularity and use of Facebook. It's definitely easier to scroll down a news feed and get the highlights of people's lives.

Most of our readers may already be up to date on our happenings via Facebook. You're not obligated to read any further...I'm gonna write a bit more. Much of our update has been pretty routine: work, work, work, house church, hang out with friends, work, work. Part of the work routine was me having to take on a second job as the casual position I had was not yielding me enough hours. The second job, though casual as well, had much more opportunity for hours and before I knew it my schedule was borderline too full. At that same time, Jeff's job picked up a lot since his injury since he has been able to get back to pretty much full duty. We looked over our budget and started crunching numbers and began to realize that we might be able to start saving for a house down payment. That was at the end of January. At the end of April, we came across a house that is perfect for us and it was also at a price point that we could manage. We decided to put an offer in and after a bit countering back and forth, we reached a number where both parties were happy. So, we are now home owners....for the first time.

We are super excited that this dream has been realized so quickly (we have been wanting to buy a house for several years but it seemed that every time we'd be close to reaching that goal, something would come up, diverting the savings to another cause. Finally! A place to call our own, where we can put our touch on it. It hasn't really fully sunk in yet for me that we actually own a house since the closing is still about 6 weeks out. The magnitude of packing and purging, however, has sunk in.

Though we haven't moved in a few years, it always amazes me how much stuff we accumulate! Yard sales will be had and selling some stuff will be done, as well as tons of sorting and packing and taping and shooing cats out of boxes. (The feline members of the family seem to have mixed emotions...on one paw, there's a whole playground in the form of cardboard and on the other paw, they know something's up.)

For those who hadn't yet heard the news of us purchasing a house, there you have it. You're in the loop! My parting shot is to leave with a song. It seems rather appropriate. Enjoy!
